Redesigned Coach Canal House

Work in progress

A listed 1775 coach house overlooking Amsterdam’s canals is being transformed into a modern home, retaining the key classic elements to create a timeless interior space.

The new home concept highlights the original details throughout the house that bring us back to the 18th century. It’s a concept focused on creating something that will last, with a design that honors history, fits the here and now, and will maintain its elegance into the future.

The first floor of the coach house, once a stable for horses and carriages, will meet every need of modern life after the renovation. That includes luxury amenities like an indoor golf simulator, a bar, a gym, and parking for two cars and multiple bikes.

The canal house is being renovated into a family home. The former annex on the first floor will be shortened slightly to create space for a patio garden. Original details like ceiling ornaments, authentic doors, cabinets, and moldings will be preserved.

The other floors will feature a spacious eat-in kitchen, a separate dining room, and a roof terrace. On the upper floor we will create space for an office and a guestroom with private bathroom. Also here, the original features will be preserved.

The overall concept is centered around balance. It’s why we chose a light, monochromatic color palette, and then we will add in unique vintage elements. Interplay will be created between steel, dark glass, and warm wood tones, while the artwork will provide distinctive pops of color.
