The power of hardware: more than a detail

At Studio Piet Boon, we believe true hospitality is found in the details. Our hotel and resort designs are not only about grand gestures, but also about the elements that guests touch and experience every day. In this context, hardware plays a crucial role. Together with FORMANI, we translate functionality into experience: a door handle is not just a technical component, but the first physical interaction with a space. It is a tangible invitation that introduces the atmosphere and brings the design to life.

Tactility and material experience

Because a door handle is touched countless times a day, the choice of material and finish plays a crucial role. A matte coating conveys understated luxury, while a patinated surface tells the story of time. These nuances add a sensory layer to a design, making a space not only visually appealing but also physically engaging. Finishes become more than aesthetics: they contribute to the emotional depth of an interior.

Consistency and cohesion

Another key aspect is cohesion across a project. When hardware throughout all rooms follows the same design language, it creates calm and a sense of natural unity. At the same time, contrast can add meaning: applying modern hardware to historic doors can spark a dialogue between past and present.

Durability and intensive use

In hospitality projects, where hardware is used intensively every day, durability is essential. Finishes such as PVD and powder coating protect against wear and discoloration, while natural materials gain character as they age. In this way, aesthetics, tactility, and longevity reinforce one another in a future-proof design.

Rosewood Amsterdam as an example

These principles are clearly visible at Rosewood Amsterdam, the luxury hotel housed in the former Palace of Justice on the Prinsengracht. Here, Studio Piet Boon selected the INC collection by FORMANI. The clean lines and tactile quality of this hardware bring harmony to the interiors, while the contrast between historic doors and modern handles adds depth. Combined with the monumental architecture and rich art curation, it creates an interior where understated luxury is felt down to the smallest details.

A subtle signature

Hardware rarely takes center stage in an interior, yet its strength lies precisely in this subtlety. It is always present – at every entrance, every touch, every moment. By connecting the larger layers of architecture, styling, and art, it makes design tangible in everyday life. That is where its value lies: in the balance between functionality, aesthetics, and emotion.
