Rosewood Miyakojima welcomes guests to a secluded retreat

6 March 2025

This resort, designed by Studio Piet Boon, is located on a pristine peninsula on the southern coast of Japan. It redefines luxury hospitality by blending architectural sensitivity, cultural heritage, and contemporary refinement. The result is an unparalleled island sanctuary.

Known as the ‘Island of Prayers,’ Miyakojima is a spiritually significant destination that offers travelers—both domestic and international—a rare immersion into the unique Ryukyu culture. Surrounded by verdant landscapes and the calm of the ocean, the island embodies a profound sense of tranquility and connection to nature.

A design rooted in place

Drawing inspiration from Ryukyu traditions and the island’s natural landscape, Studio Piet Boon has designed a resort that seamlessly harmonizes with its surroundings. The architecture and interiors embrace local materials, with Ryukyu limestone, natural wood, and organic textures enhancing the connection between indoors and outdoors.
