Grand opening of the renovated The College Hotel, Amsterdam
30 May 2024
The College Hotel proudly announces the reopening of its building in Amsterdam. After an intensive renovation, which created 40 unique rooms and gave the lobby a complete makeover, the hotel is reopening its doors. Studio Piet Boon was responsible for the interior design, where history and modernity converge.
Historical heritage with a modern touch
The boutique hotel, located on Roelof Hartstraat in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, is housed in an impressive 19th-century building. The monumental building was opened in 1894 as a Higher Citizens School and continues to serve as a unique learning environment for students to this day. In 2005, the school building was transformed into a boutique hotel. In the new design, Studio Piet Boon has interwoven nostalgic elements into a contemporary design. Keen observers will notice various elements from bygone school days: report cards, chalkboards, notebooks. Both the 40 hotel rooms and the reception, lobby, and hallways are now up-to-date again.
“From the moment guests step into The College Hotel, they feel the rich history of the building; full of references to the past and with a view to the future, just like in a school.”
- Irene Valbusa, Senior Designer
Festive reopening
On May 29, the reopening was celebrated in grand style with music, workshops, and cocktails and dishes provided by restaurant Mondi.
