Spacious Canal House
This unique and beautiful 700 m2 historic residence stands along one of the most charming canals in Amsterdam. The aim for the interior design of this 5-story canal house was to restore authentic details, such as the high ceilings with original ornaments and beams, while ensuring a harmonious and comfortable modern living environment. The balance between past and present can be found in the details. The house has been outfitted with the latest technology and conveniences as required by the new occupants.
When entering this family home, the first thing that catches the eye is the original marble entrée, fully restored to its former glory. Throughout the property original details may be found, such as beautifully restored stained-glass windows. For additions to the design we chose exclusive and sustainable materials, smart functionalities and tactical use of selected products and furniture pieces.
Together with the client, we created a logical allocation of functions throughout the house, harmoniously connected by spacious corridors and hallways. The result is a historical, unique and lush family home, conceived with the characteristic Studio Piet Boon signature, to create a comfortable and timeless interior where modern design seamlessly blends with the classical context.
The spacious and bespoke family kitchen by Piet Boon is designed to be the main living area of the house and overlooks the lush and deep city garden. This is where the family comes together to cook, eat and spend time along the generous cooking island.
The use of a serene, natural color palette pays tribute the classical elements of the architecture. Redefining and repositioning spaces according to the wishes and lifestyle of the client, we created a harmonious, effortless flow of generously proportioned and light-filled living spaces.
