Haarlem canal house

Canal House, Haarlem

One of our teams designed the interior of an authentic four-story canal house with views over the picturesque canals and bridges of Haarlem. The project spans over 200m² and includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, two toilets, a separate home office, and a living room. The spaces are equipped with an integrated Flos lighting system, and Salvatori tiles add a touch of sophistication to the bathroom.

Our goal was to combine modern elements with the classical charm of the property. The design is characterized by plaster-wrapped staircases that serve as a connecting element from the ground floor to the top. A consistent design language is implemented on every floor, creating balance.

The smaller spaces have been adapted to feel more spacious. The existing kitchen design has been retained, but the chairs in the dining area have flexible back cushions that are loose and weighted at the bottom. These cushions can be turned to sit in any direction, offering a beautiful view outside.

A tone-on-tone, light palette with dark details has been applied to create a serene and cohesive atmosphere. We used a calm and minimalist material palette, with natural materials that exude luxury. Natural stone and wood veneer play a prominent role, along with a custom-made paint color and a poured floor in the hallway. The rest of the house has wooden floors.
