Dutch Farmhouse
We were given the task of restoring this listed historic farmhouse in 2012 with care and respect for local legislation. Our aim for the design was to create a contemporary home within a traditional setting. In doing so we chose to retain the traditional exterior design and completely renew the home’s interior design.
During the design of the home, our greatest challenge was to allow as much light as possible into the interior. By introducing clear lines of sight and keeping the areas as open as possible, we were able to give the home the desired sense of space. Increasing the total living space and realizing all functional requirements, the barn was incorporated into the house.Â
The children have their own play areas next to the kitchen and the living room, all of which are interconnected, so that the family members retain a sense of being together. Consistent use of white and a subdued color palette in the interior design provided the home with a light and pleasant character.
