Exploring Geometric Shapes with Principal Product Designer, Studio Piet Boon
01 October 2024
Anne de Jongh, principal product designer at Studio Piet Boon, shares her insights into the inspiration and creative process behind the Piet Boon by Giobagnara FORM & PIECES and FOLD collections. Geometric shapes play a central role in this process, with a strong focus on rectangles, triangles, and circles. These shapes form the foundation of the collections, bringing both structure and elegance to each design.
Color Philosophy and the Creative Process
Color plays a subtle yet significant role in the designs, with a preference for tone-on-tone shades and a harmonious color balance. The creative process often begins with inspiration from fashion shows and evolves into the creation of mock-up models and folding prototypes, Anne explains.
Craftsmanship and Materials: The Core of Each Design
For Anne, craftsmanship is essential. “Everything is handmade,” she says. The use of leather, a material that ages beautifully, highlights this commitment to quality. “The products I design in leather are only truly beautiful in leather,” she explains.
"The design and the material are inextricably linked, creating a product that is both functional and visually appealing."

Luxury and Functionality: The Perfect Balance
In the Giobagnara products and Studio Piet Boon collections, luxury is seamlessly combined with functionality. “Weight not only adds function to quality, but it also contributes to a sense of luxury when a product feels heavier,” Anne explains. Every detail enhances this feeling, reflecting Studio Piet Boon’s philosophy of simplicity and refinement without compromise.
Creating a Complete Interior Experience
With the Piet Boon by Giobagnara FORM & PIECES and FOLD collections, we aim to create a full Studio Piet Boon experience in every interior. “We want you to be able to experience our world in every room,” says Anne. Each type of leather is carefully selected based on its unique characteristics and suitability for the design.
The Designer’s Favorites
When it comes to her favorite pieces in the collection, Anne mentions the tray and the storage box. “The tray is my favorite because, with a small adjustment, the circle suddenly became a tray,” she shares. The storage box, with its subtle incorporation of a triangle, is beloved for its logical and refined design.
