For this project, Studio Piet Boon was asked, together with three other Dutch designers, to design an apartment complex in which each designer was responsible for one corner of the building. In this way the different designs ‘meet’ each other in the front, the back and both side walls. In total the building has 28 apartments and 4 penthouses. The apartments are located on the first to the fourth floors and vary in size. Between two protected nature reserves, at the head of the Boulevard and the Deltaplein, the building rises up. For the facade of Nieuw Kijkduin, Studio Piet Boon was inspired by the coast and the surrounding natural elements. The exterior is a contemporary interpretation of curves of sand and rocks shaped by erosion.
Important for the design of the interior is the creation of an enriching living experience. Central to this are the feelings of well-being, luxury and comfort. Connecting the interior with the balcony, the various green elements, the subdued color palette with a rich variety of earth tones and unique details enhance that feeling.
The layout of the various living, sleeping and dining areas is arranged according to function and intensity. The main living areas are spacious and have a logical routing. Spaces where you spend most of your time, such as the dining and living room, face outwards to make optimal use of natural light and allow the residents to always enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline. Long sightlines emphasize the sense of spaciousness and create an open feeling.
