Marriott Hotel Amsterdam
Appointed by Marriott Hotel Amsterdam, Studio Piet Boon was tasked with the refurbishment of 396 guest rooms, emphasizing the Marriott service excellence and innovative spirit. Inspired by the ‘brutalism’ movement, our aim for the interior design of the guest room was to optimize the use of space and create a warm contemporary atmosphere. In doing so, we chose to convey honest architectural elements, raw yet refined materials, thoughtful detailing and well-thought out spaces that together form a balanced whole. Rethinking the hotel room configurations has led to more generous proportions and clever solutions that meet today’s modern guest requirements and give the impression of an enlarged space.
An understated color palette of white and grey tones builds on the room’s brutalism theme and sense of space, complementing the floor and creating a fresh neutral base for accessories. Adding a splash of color, the exterior of the cubist-shaped bathroom is outfitted with blue colored Japanese “washi” wallpaper. The opposite wardrobe and open closet boast the same color contrast. Because we believe Marriott Hotel Amsterdam should beat with the same heart as the city, mindful attention is paid to the “couleur locale” and cultural nuances are embedded in the interior design of the model room.
Creating a warm experience and accentuating the room’s main features; bookcase, bed and generous proportioned bespoke design furniture are brimmed with diffused backlit illumination. Multifunctional multimedia have been incorporated into the overall design, enabling guests to connect whenever and wherever they please.
