Fate brought Studio Piet Boon and the owners of this Fifth Avenue apartment together, as they stumbled upon our Piet Boon 1 book in a New York bookstore by chance whilst in search of an interior designer. And so in 2006 the story of our first residential project in New York started; the complete renovation of a sizeable apartment overlooking Central Park. Working closely together with the client, we managed to realize a total concept apartment.
For this project we opted for a minimalistic design approach free of dissonance that combined historical elements with contemporary design. Considering the apartments unique location it was important to make optimal use of natural light and design the interior in such a way that the view of Central Park could be enjoyed from various rooms, especially the living. Adding to the sense of space and accommodating the owners various works of art, the interior design’s color palette is made up of hues of white. This timeless “blank canvas” creates a warm atmosphere and allows for change in accent colors whenever. In addition the entire apartment is permeated with exquisite and bespoke detailing. The specially designed moldings that adorns the bedroom ceiling is such an example.
The result was a rich interior with international allure and elements of European design that brought a complete new presence to the stately fifth avenue area whilst respecting the coleur locale.
