Studio Piet Boon to design the Rosewood Amsterdam Hotel

We are delighted and so very proud to make the official announcement that Studio Piet Boon has been chosen by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to design all of the guest rooms and public spaces of the Rosewood Amsterdam. The hotel will take shape in the magnificent former Palace of Justice in the historic canal district and will set the new standard for 5-star hospitality in our wonderful hometown. This assignment is truly a unique project, and it is a privilege to work with this iconic brand on creating ‘A Sense of Place™’ for future guests.

Studio Piet Boon has been selected by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and CTF Amsterdam B.V to design all of the guestrooms and public spaces of the Rosewood Amsterdam. The ultra-luxury hospitality group will open its first hotel in the Netherlands in 2023, which will be located in the magnificent former Palace of Justice in the historic canal district. The iconic building, known for its great architectural, historical and social significance, overlooks the Prinsengracht, one of the most beautiful waterways in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Amsterdam Canal District. With its central location and bespoke design, carefully conceived to offer an inviting and warm atmosphere, the property is poised to serve as an unparalleled gathering place for visiting guests and the local community alike.

The Dutch design studio is responsible for the interior design of the public spaces, and 134 unique rooms and suites. Studio Piet Boon is known for its ability to balance functionality, aesthetics and individuality. The design team will honor the property’s original elements and distinctive Dutch identity, while incorporating a contemporary sense of style that captures the energetic and exciting Amsterdam of today.

The project is in alignment with the Bureau Monumenten en Archeologie (BMA) and the City of Amsterdam, to preserve the rich heritage and quintessential character of this iconic building. In close cooperation with all involved parties, such as the Dutch architectural firm Kentie & Partners, selected to spearhead the property’s evolution into an ultra-luxury hotel; the Amsterdam-based Studio Concrete, appointed to design the hotel’s main restaurant, and London-based interior design firm Sagrada, asked to design an intimate bar, all areas of this luxurious hotel will create a coherent whole. Studio Piet Boon is also responsible for the Rosewood Spa, which offers ayurvedic treatments. The spa, located in the lower level of the hotel, facilitate a wellness area, gym and an indoor swimming. Soft diffuse lighting will be complemented by natural daylight from unique ceiling vents, allowing subtle modulations of atmosphere throughout the day. In addition, multiple event spaces and meeting rooms, including a 3,000 square-foot ballroom, will offer advanced audio-visual services.

Decorative details throughout the hotel’s public spaces will pay homage to the signature spirit of both the building and city, while creating a selection of differentiated yet unified spaces. Subtle yet impactful means, such as contrasting color schemes, will create unobtrusive transitions from one setting to another. Notably, the lobby lounge will feature a library adorned with beautiful legal books doubling as art pieces, photographs and artifacts, as well as comfortable, elegant seating, to create an enticing enclave which will invite visitors to linger and relax. The grand library will host a Business Club, to stimulate high-level business and networking in an exclusive setting. Other amenities will include three restaurants, one of which will specialize in Indian cuisine. All public spaces will overlook the three distinct, internal landscaped courtyards of the building, created by renowned landscape designer, Piet Oudolf.
