Emma Children's Hospital

Studio Piet Boon has been asked to contribute to the interior design for the Neonatology department in the Emma Children’s Hospital of Amsterdam UMC. Within the hospital’s existing guidelines, our team has worked out the color- and materials concepts for this department. We also worked on the interior design for, among other items, the entrance area, visitor lounge, flexible workstations and the staff and team room. This concept will create consistency in the ‘Look & Feel’ of the newly created spaces.
The well-being of the parents, employees and patients is central to the entire design and the spaces must offer the users a home-like atmosphere. We have chosen an interactive variant for the Wall of Hope element, given an extra dimension by means of 3D display cases and objects. Parents can leave messages on this wall for other parents whose child needs treatment.
The Parent’s Nursery will get a complete makeover. The design achieves a harmonious whole through the use of soothing natural tones and materials.
The patients’ parents may withdraw from the medical environment in this room and relax in a warm environment.
