Modern Townhouse Amsterdam
The Studio Piet Boon team has been asked to create a new interior design for this beautifully located, stately, Amsterdam family home. The client’s request was to review the existing internal layout of the property and carry out a contemporary renovation to create a functional and inviting family home. The design this 4-story home meets the residents’ need for more space by expanding the rear of the house, adding a roof terrace and deepening a spacious basement. The renovation accentuates the richness of character that has developed over time.
The renovation made the house more open and creates a dramatic interior. The central staircase shows a sense of symmetry and gives access to a new kitchen, dining and living space on the raised ground floor. Here, the studio has removed several walls and extended the property into the garden. The high ceilings in combination with the use of floor-to-ceiling pivot doors and a glass front provide a light and airy interior. Moreover, they add a touch of tradition to the modern look of the open plan floor.
In the large living space, a mix of elegant furniture, natural materials and personal art creates a rich environment with appealing textures. The custom Piet Boon kitchen is a contemporary delight, made from dark wood combined with Gheraldina brown marble, where the color accents of orange and white veins stand out. Oak herringbone floors were chosen to maintain cohesion, while a classic continuous wooden handrail runs playfully throughout the house, connecting each room. This is a unique family home that is both beautiful and functional. It is a perfect example of modern luxury where a harmonious interior with a timeless appearance is created with respect for authentic details and available daylight.
The neutral color palette consisting of chalky, earthy tones is used throughout the interior, and the contrasting hints of stronger colors surprise, and bring vibrancy to the spaces.
